Mission

Preserving Voices. Honoring Experience.

Prison Genius exists to collect and preserve first-person accounts from people who have experienced incarceration, as well as those directly impacted by it.

Too often, these voices are overlooked, simplified, or erased. We believe lived experience has value and deserves to be shared with care, dignity, and respect.

What We Do

Prison Genius provides a space for voluntary, first-person reflections that explore life during and after incarceration. Stories may address daily realities, personal growth, accountability, relationships, and the lasting effects of confinement.

Each contribution is presented in the author’s own voice, with limited editing focused on clarity, safety, and informed consent.

Our Approach

Prison Genius is not advocacy, journalism, or legal guidance.
It is documentation.

We prioritize reflection over judgment and understanding over interpretation. Our goal is to preserve authentic experiences without sensationalism, agenda, or editorial framing.

Our Values

  • Respect for contributors and their lived experience
  • Voluntary participation and informed consent
  • Integrity in how stories are presented and preserved
  • Humanization of complex systems through honest narrative

An Invitation
